Helping businesses increase sales and build customer relationships through the understanding and integration of technology and the Internet.

Dear Reader,

Thanks for the positive feedback on my first issue of "The Big Picture". I was really pleased with the open rate, which exceeded industry norms. You have given me some high standards to live up to and I will do my best to do just that.

As always, if you have a Business or Technology Tip that you would like to share, I will include it in a future issue and plug your Web site. Great PR!

Marathons Are Out -- Sprints Are In

The concept of "managing your energy" caught my attention in the new book called "The Power of Full Engagement", by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz.

It has several revolutionary concepts that will make you stop and rethink what you are doing. One is to manage your energy, not your time. Look at life as a series of sprints, instead of a marathon, and use the downtime between the sprints as time to recharge your batteries.

If you are one that frequently thinks about work during your "downtime" (lunch, family time at home, vacation), use this philosophy to give yourself permission to fully relax and experience it for what it is. You will find that you have more energy and a better mental attitude -- ready to take on the next task, knowing that there is an end in sight.

Want to know how you compare to others on this topic? The following survey lets you view the responses of others, in real-time, once you have submitted your answer.  Check back often as others "vote", to see the latest.

Currently, I would categorize myself as a:

Marathoner -- I think about work more than I should on my downtime and don't fully recharge my batteries

Sprinter -- I don't feel guilty about leaving work ''at work'' and enjoy my time off to its fullest

Is Your Search Engine Visibility Good Enough?

Do you have adequate visibility in the search engines? If you think you do when the only keyword phrase that will bring up your Web site is your company name when entered in the address bar, then you are in for a surprise.

What if someone doesn't know your company name? What about all of those other search terms that describe what you do?

Other search terms, you ask? Yes. Try out this neat tool from MetaCrawler which refreshes every 15 seconds with the most recent searches from 8 top search engines:

Ask yourself: would you have typed in that phrase?

The moral of this story -- to maximize your coverage in the search engines and direct more traffic to your Web site, you need visibility for many search terms.

How Good Are You At Guessing Search Terms?

Why leave it to guessing? Technology is wonderful. I have tools that allow me to know exactly what keywords people have typed into the search engines over the last 30 days that target your specific set of products and services.

This is absolutely vital information for developing strategies to capture that traffic and send it to your Web site.
